Board & Train Program

The Board & Train is done in the trainers home and only dogs in training or graduates of our program are allowed on the property to help ensure a safe and stress-free environment. During this program your dog will get training time, nap time, socialization around dogs and people, field trips and play time! Your dog will learn 10 Obedience Commands on/off leash. They will also learn basic manners and we can address a wide range of behavioral issues.

During both our three and four week program your dog will learn 10 Obedience Commands on and off leash. We will also address any behavior modification discussed with the trainer during enrollment. In addition to that your dog will learn basic manners such as, no jumping/counter-surfing, no barking, loose leash walking, kennel manners etc.

When you drop off your dog, you will receive of binder of information to teach you what your dog will learn while they are at their Board & Train. You will study this information at home then we will review it together during your “mid-lesson”. Three week Board & Trains will have their “mid-lesson” at the end of the second week. Four week Board & Trains will have theirs at the end of the second week and/or the end of the third week. This is based off your trainer’s assessment about what would be most beneficial for your dog. During the “mid-lesson” you will see your dog, but neither you nor them will be ready for active training together, instead they will demonstrate one of their obedience commands (place) while we review the binder. This also acts as a great way to show your dog that even with you, their favorite person, here they are still expected to listen to their training. This helps set you up for success for your first working session!

On your dog’s last week of training (third or fourth week) we will begin your “Go-Home Lessons”. During this time you will have two or three lessons with your trainer where you will practice your dog’s obedience commands with them. We will create a custom "90-Day Homework Plan" for you to help your pup be successful at home. At the end of your last lesson for the week, you will take your pup home and begin your homework plan.

One week after taking your dog home, you will meet with your trainer again! Meeting with your trainer again so soon allows us to help make sure you and your pup are having success during the transition from a B&T back to life at home. If there are any issues for you or your dog, we want to help you address those as soon as possible to avoid their training getting off track. This lesson can be used as a review, a trip to a dog friendly store with your trainer, or even a lesson at your home depending on what you and your trainer think would be most beneficial for you and your dog.

Finally, you are gifted three free follow up lessons to be used 30, 60 and 90 days into your "90-Day Homework Plan". Again, these lessons allow you to check in with your trainer and make sure everything is going smoothly. If things are going great, still use your lessons! We can then use these lessons to continue to advance your dog’s training or discuss ways to begin lightening up on your homework and easing more freedom into your pup’s life! I understand that life gets busy and it is not always easy to make time to come back and check in- but I will say I have never had a client use all three of their follow up lessons and not be successful! So if you can make it back for your follow ups, we highly recommend it!

Would my dog do best with a three or four week program?

Three Week Program-

Our Three Week Board & Train is the perfect fit for most dogs! This program is ideal for dogs needing basic obedience and who have no behavioral issues, and dogs with mild behavioral issues. Mild behavioral issues would be things like, jumping, counter surfing, barking, getting into things they shouldn’t, slight leash reactivity, etc. Your dog may be showing signs that they are starting to have more severe issues like intense leash reactivity, kennel anxiety, separation anxiety, or aggression. It is at your trainer’s discretion to decide if your dog’s specific these behaviors can be resolved with the three week program.

Four Week Program-

This program is for dogs who may need a little more time to get to the best version of themselve. In addition to the 10 obedience commands and basic manners, we are also able to address more severe behavioral issues. Having more time with your dog allows us to get to the “root” of the behavioral issue and provide more than just a surface level/ temporary solution. Issues that would need a Four Week Program would be things like intense separation anxiety, severe kennel anxiety, severe reactivity, and any form of aggression (dog/human/fear/resource etc). Additionally, this course is for the dogs who have high generalized anxiety or are just very fearful/nervous. This extra week allows me to move really slowly with your dog to give them time to warm up and get comfortable! Finally, sometimes owners choose this course because it allows me to “proof” your dog’s training for you a little bit more before sending them home. If you are concerned about being able to put in the work with your dog after graduation this gives you a little head start- please note though for any dog and any program to be successful you must still be sure to do your best to stick with your homework plan you custom made with your trainer.

Note: Failing to disclose any severe behavioral issues in attempt to get the shorter program will result in immediate action at the discretion of the trainer. Dog may be sent home with the chance to reschedule as a four week, or trainer may choose to continue but will void any guarantees of commands/behavior modification (as without knowledge of behavioral issue time was not allotted correctly in order to address everything in the appropriate order)
